DRM protection solutions for cable / satellite / IPTV services

Premium television and video-on-demand services are prime targets for hackers, content pirates and subscription fraud.

New Services Generate New Revenue

"Hollywood fears that the pirating of movies will become as common as the illicit sharing of music files."

- Greg Sandoval, CNET

Owners of high value video content are faced with a challenging environment for growing revenues today. DVD sales have declined, while the growth in next generation Blu-Ray has stalled. A growing number of consumers now look online for content to download, without regard to legality. Net-based distribution has become a mainstream method for consumption of content, and it offers the most immediate opportunity for content owners to tap new sources of revenue at lower cost, but unfortunately with greater risk of content theft.

Operators need to offer differentiated services to reduce subscriber churn and satisfy demand for any time, any place, any device content consumption. Leveraging the PC as a player for premium HD content within the personal/home entertainment system will offer incremental revenue and increase customer satisfaction. While the demand for HD content is compelling, the level of security on the PC has not been adequate to make it a viable distribution platform.

Enabling Premium HD Content on the PC

"Finding a robust solution using DTCP-IP to broaden the reach and distribute content to consumers on multiple platforms has been of great interest to our members and to the content community. A solution that satisfies the content owners’ needs for security will allow cable operators to distribute throughout the home or business the content consumers are demanding, including on the PC."

- Ralph Brown, CTO, CableLabs

To bridge the needs of content owners, operators, device manufacturers and consumers, Cloakware offers the Secure Media Player Framework, a fully managed, trusted and renewable platform that enables premium content distribution to the PC. Building on Cloakware’s content security and DRM expertise, the Secure Media Player Framework protects the entire media path, from content reception to rendering, and bridges the security/usability gap to make the PC platform a reality for HD content consumption.
